This tutorial explains how to transfer location layouts from one location to another.
Follow this tutorial if you want to change the size of a location without having to lay out the elements again.

If you started a panel layout, then realized you needed to use a smaller or larger panel, you may have tried to assign a different catalogue part to the location.
This has the result of removing all the elements from the panel layouts.
If that has happened to you, you can simply use the Time Machine to restore a backup of the project/system to before you did that, then follow the steps below.

1. Select your project/system in the tree view, go to the Create/Add tab and select New Location

2. Assign the desired catalogue part to the new location (and if needed, add sub-locations and assign the desired catalogue parts to those too)

3. Open the old panel layout (if your panel layout was done in a sub-location, such as a door or backplate sub-location, open the sub-location layout) 

4. Go to Layout tools tab and select Transfer to other layout

5. Select the new location/sub-location layout to which you want the elements transferred, then click OK 
6. Repeat as necessary if you have multiple panel layouts to transfer
