Creating custom rails and wire ducts

Description

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create custom rails and wire ducts for your panel layouts.

Topics Covered

Wire duct, rail, panel layout.

Main Content

To save a new wire duct or rail part number and layout to your catalogue, you must open an existing one first:

  1. Select SkyCAD in the tree view
  2. Go to the Create/Add tab and select Open item from catalogue
  3. Once a wire duct or rail is open, modify its properties as desired, as well as its layout view. (Take note that because a wire duct or rail layout is defined horizontally, the Height property represents the width of the wire duct or rail). It is usually better to leave the Width property as it is.
If you are making your rail or wire duct taller (via the Height property), you may want to move around some of the drawing objects. These drawing objects will be easier to move if you go to the Drawing tab and de-select Extension axis snap  .
  4. Once you're done, apply a Save As and you're done.

Note: when you insert a rail or wire duct in a panel layout, it always selects the last part number used. Once the item is inserted, you can select it and choose Assign from catalogue from the Home tab to change its part number. You will notice its width and layout image will get updated automatically.
